Mnhauoy City, Pa.. Feb. 2.—Five men were instantly killed late at night in the Maple Hill colliery of the Philadelphia and Heading Coni and Iron company. The victims, who were rock men, are: Morgan Jones, aged 35 years: John Mackey. 28; Joseph Junis, 35; Adam Savage, 23; John Hudcriek, 31-

Tlie uien were killed by tin explosion of powder in a steel cage In which they were being hoisted. The explosion ripped the eage apart and the xuangled forms of the rook men- fell 300 feet to the bottom of the shaft. The head of one of the men was blown off. The Maple Hill is one of the collieries visited by the anthracite strike commission, and it is oue of the best equipjied mines tn tlie hard coal regions.
