A<)ne of those lightning changes in temperature, for which Indiana is famous, occurred last Friday, and turned the “black Christmas” of the morning into a decidedly white one in the Friday night was very blustering and decidedly cold, the mercury Saturday morning standing at 11 below zero. The change in temperature was 40 to 60 degrees in about twelve hours. Zero weather has since prevailed, and at this writing some four or five inches of snow cover the ground.
Attorney E. P. Honan who is in the West Side hospital, Chioago, to be operated on for the removal of gall stones, was operated on Thursday.rv A number of gall stones were found. The gall duct was practically closed and the doctors say that he coaid not have lived any length of time without an operation. He was quite weak of course, after the operation, but was coming out from under the influences of the same when the letter from which we gain our information was was written to Mrs. Hemphill, his mother-in-law, and it was thought he would get along all right. The marriage of Mr. Edward Mills and Miss Maude Healey took place as annonnced on Christmas day, at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Julia Healey, at 2 p. m., Rev. Elam of the Christian church performing the ceremony. About sixty invited guests were present. The newly married couple after receiving the congratulations of their friends departed for Chicago on the 3:30 p. m. train, where they will reside. The guests from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. John W. Fawcett and Mrs. Frank Lyon of Delphi; Miss Blanche Lyon o_f Lafayette; Mrs. Horace Mills of Grand Ridge, Ill.; and Misses Lydia and Phoebe Mills of Ottawa, 111. Edward Fleming, a well known' resident of Demotte, died suddenly at his home in that place on Thursday night of last week from heart disease. Mr. Fleming with his family had attended a Christmas tree entertainment, and some time after returning home was taken with severe pains in his head and stomach. Local remedies were administered and apparent relief was obtained, Mrs. Fleming went to sleep and in the morning a daughter went into the room and found her father dead and the mother lying asleep at his side. A post mortem discloeed the fact that the heart was enlarged to nearly twice its normal size. Deceased leaves a wife, three children and one stepdaughter. The funeral was held Sunday at Valparaiso.
v'The painters are putting the finishjng touches on the interior of J. C. Harris’ new house this week. Mr. Harris has one of the handsomest and most convenient residences in Rensselaer, the interior of which is finished in birch, oak. and black walnut, being exceptionally upstairs is finished in yellow pine. The reception hall, parlor, sitting room and dining room are connected with handsome sliding doors. The front entrance has handsome double doors of black walnut, with oval French plate glass, and are probably the finest doors in the city. The porch is also a model.of beauty in architecture. The honse was built by Monroe Banes, and will probably cost, including furnace and everything complete, about $4,000.
