The Mother of Pearl Industry.

The center of the mother of pearl Industry is Singapore. The shell oyster is six to ten inches long, the larger ones weighing as mnch as ten pounds. It is found on hard bottom channels between islands, where the current is strong. In gathering It a diver takes with him a bag of coir rope a fourth of an inch in diameter, made in large meshes, which, while suited for holding the shell, does not impede his traveling aiong the bottom.
