Our Roads Astonish Foreigners.

The development of passenger transportation In the United States astonishes all foreigners. Edwin A. Pratt, a representative of the London Times, was making some investigations yesterday at the Grand Central Station with a view* 1 to writing a comprehensive article on American railroads. His Inquiries developed the fact that the New York Central has eight passenger trains a day between New York and Chicago, and when he learned that the distance Is OSO miles he remarked that it is a marvelous thing. He was still further astonished to find that four of the eight trains make the 080 miles in twenty-four hours, and that one, the Twentieth Century Limited, goes the distance every day, in either direction, in twenty hours. His amazement grew wben he was informed that the westbound Twentieth Century Limited carries only Chicago passengers, and will not take a passenger for any other point.
