FROM TOM’S TOWNSHIP.
A verdant young couple from Kankakee tp., were in town Monday seeking to be married. After considerable delay, owing to the groom failing to find anyone who could vouch for the age of the bride or her place of residence, a license waß granted him on his making an affidavit regarding the same. Squire Troxell tied the nuptial knot good and strong, but the youth evidently thought it was all done for accommodation and sought to put the Squire off by inviting him out to “irrigate.’’ The squire declined the invitation and insisted on a cash consideration. Finally the groom fished out a half dollar and extended to the Squire, who told him to dig up a dollar. Seventyfive cents was finally found and paid over; then the groom went up on the midway and quaffed from the flowing bowl, while the bride patiently waited at the entrance to the alley near by with folded arms, for his return. They gave their names as Edward Davis and Clara Stephenson, and their age as 22 and 20, respectively. They formerly resided in Starke county, lately locating in Tom Maloney’s township.
