Hayden, who had been forbidden to call upon the young lady, attempted to persuade her to elope with him. and the father drew a revolver and ordered iiim to leave the premises. Hayden nl o pulled a gun, and both men fired at the same moment. Taylor dropped with a bullet in his right leg and the ambitious lover escaped, leaving the young lady at home.
