Telegraphic Brevities.
In a brawl at Livingston, Ky., John Settles shot and killed Joseph Mullins. The supreme board of health at Lima, Peru, has declared the port of Callao free from bubonic plague. The new British armored cruiser Berwick attained a speed of SE4.O knots per hour at Her official trial. Louis Kcatz, aged 27, was stabbed to death at Cleveland by his brother-in-law, Joseph Sockey, aged 23. A crowd of 5,000 men searched for the murderer, but the excitement had greatly subsided by the time he was found, when the police took him in charge. Minister Conger has reported to the State Department that the Chinese government has undertaken to remove the negotiations for the commerciai treaty from Shanghai to Pekin. It is suggested that the strong English influence* to Shanghai are at the bottom of the Chinese government’s actions.
