THE COMMON COUNCIL.
The oity council met in regular session Monday evening and transacted considerable business. The petition ofß. 0. Dowler fora sidewalk was referred to the street oommtttee. The library board tendered the city the Jasper Public Library, the tender to be void unless the Oarnegie library is bntlt. The gift was aocepted on this condition and 8. P. Thompson and Mrs. Ora T. Boss were appointed members of the library board to represent the city. The law provides a board of nine members, two to be appointed by the city, two by the school board, three by the circuit court, and two by the township, one Of which shall consist of the township trustee. An order was made for the improvement of Cedar street, the street running east from Henry Harris’ residence, and also for the Improvement ofSosan street from College avenue to Division street. . This Is the street rnnning east from Ben Hards’ residence, passing the sohooi buildings, the Christian and Catholic cburohes and other property. The oity attorney waa instructed to prepare an ordinance for the construction of a sidewalk on the north side of Clark street. The clerk was instructed to secure sealed bids for hauling coal from the railroad to the light plant. The treasurer’s report was filed showing the following balances on hand: Road fond, $636.78; corporation, 9187.83; water, 9631.89; electric light, overdrawn, 9161.22. The fire company filed a report showing the resignation of Wm. Mackey as a member of the department and the election of John Rush as treasurer and E. Q.
