“What Is rain In Manila,’’ says a man who has been there, “you think the first time you see the spectacl* that the end of the world has come. Why, one day In September that I wag there It rained thirteen Inches. Too would think that would weary the elements for some time, but It did not. The next day It rained a foot, the dny after that seven Inches. “Where does the water go to?” asked a listener, “Right back where It comes from,’* was the prompt reply. “After a downfall the sun will come out hotter than ever and you can fairly aee every* thing gteam, and yet there are a great many people who wouldn’t live any* where else except In Manila.” Where lightning has struck ones te the place In the neighborhood where It w most likely to strike again.
