Congressman A. J. Hopkins was nominated unanimously for United States Senator by Illinois Republican legislative caucus. Reed Smoot, Mormon elder, was nominated for United States Senator by Utah Republican legislative caucus. His election is certain. The workhouse board at Toledo has issued an order setting at liberty all prisoners held for stealing coal from the railway yards and tracks. The order' includes directions to the superintendent to receive no more prisoners from any court sending them in for petty coal thefts. The Prussian Diet has been reopened. The speech from the throne* took a gloomy view of the finances of Prussia and declares a loan will have z to be made, The- Reichstag resinned its sessions, the budget being (he most important matter for consideration. Poth branches of the French Parliament also reopened. A freight train on flic Canandaigua branch of the New York Central Railroad crashed into a sleigh at u grade crossing near Stafford.
