"If I looked mean ns you do. I'd Go out an' soak my noodle head — An' 'on sneak off somewheres an' hide!” 'Veil, pa got riled, an' says—says he: You’re makin’ of a great to-do ’Bout nothin’, so it 'pears to me; You're 'feared 'at I'll look younger’n you t” “Look younger?” ma says, kind o' ca’m; “You're took a purty way to try! W’y, you look older’n Abraham — An’ uglier'n ol’ Bill Nye!” Non ma she hiked right off to bed; An’ pa went in the libraree, An’ took me on his lap an' said: “Now. Boh, you see you look like me.
You’ve got my mouth, you’ve got my grin. My eyoe an’ nose—they ain’t half had; The same deep dimple in y’r chin— Y’ou’re ist the image of y'r dad!” I didn't say a word—hut. gee! "fwas lucky that the light was dim, ’R pa'd ’ave took me ’cross his knee Fer makin’ open fun o' him. I had to laugh! So I says—“Pa, I s'pect I’d better go to bed;” An’ sneaked up stairs—an’ me an’ ma Ist lnnghed till we was nearly dead! W'y, w'en my pa shaved off his heard, Ho looked as old ns years an’ years; An’ w’en he grinned—nen I was ’feared His mouth might swnller up his ears! Me look like pa—well, jeeminee! My faco ain’t long an’ pale an' slim; He. may be, sometime looked like me But 1 won’t never look like him!” —James Ball Naylor, In Good Times.
