Jasper County Democrat, Volume 5, Number 28, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 18 October 1902 — THE TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES. [ARTICLE]

THE TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES.

The township trustees’ district meeting was not a success so far as attendance was concerned, not more than one-fourth, even if that many, of the trustees being present. Numerous matters were discussed to be presented to the next legislature in the way of changes in present laws. The meeting declared in favor of $2.50 per day for trustees’ services; the sale of text books direct from publishers to dealers; discontinuance of pay to teachers for attending county institutes; that trustees be allowed to hire teachers at $2 per day without regard to grades; the present system of electing county superintendents; raising the additional road levy to 15 cents; trustees having charge of the poor fund; changes in the present road laws; and trustees being eligible to re-election.
