Monday, Nov. 3, is the last day for paying the fall installment or taxes to avoid penalty. —Q The Moore-Porter case has been settled, and will not be appealed. Mr. Moore has paid Mrs. Porter the balance of the purchase price, $2,000, and takes the property. —o — Henry Jones of Monticello, another of the Iroquois ditch viewers has declined to serve further. The compensation is too little to justify him in coming here and paying his own expenses. —o — Dr. H. J. Kannal has been appointed as the republican member and U. M. Baughman as the democratic member of the county election commissioners. The county clerk is the third member. Marriage licenses issued: Oct. 14, Harry C. Spencer to Fannie M. Hicks. Oct. 15, Oscar Graham to Anna Loughry. Oct. 15, James E. Parks to Mary Zimmerman. —o — New suits filed: No. 6382. Simon P. Thompson vs. Walter R. Lee et al; action on note and mortgage. No. 6383. Carpenter vs. Nicodemus Camp et al; action to quiet title. —o — Appellant’s brief in the case of Patrick Halligan vs. George W. Tanner, Simeon A. Dowell,'Clinton Brown, Robert F. Helm, Harry E. Lewis, Charles Murray, Wm. W. Burns, Stephen W. Thayer and the Sansom Commission Company, was filed in the supreme court last Monday. The brief was printed by the Democrat, and was the second large|fg brief that has gone up from this county for several years.
