SQUIRE TROXELL’S COURT.
The present week has been Unite a busy one with Justice Troxell. Tbe first case was that of the State vs. Wesley Price of Barkley tp., charged with assault and battery in cruelly whipping and beating the 8-year-old son of Allen Caldwell, who had left the boy with Price to board and go to school, and was paying for his board. Price came home drunk and became vexed atj the child and whipped and beat him uumericfully. Price plead guilty and was fined $lO and costs amounting all told to $27.60, which he paid. There is talk of Mr. Caldwell beginning a civil suit against Price for damages, it being alleged that the boy is permanently injured. The next case was the civil case of Jesse Roudebush vs. Squire Fay, venued from Squire LaMoine of Union tp., to Squire Wiseman, also of Union, and from Wiseman to Squire Troxell. The action was for labor performed by plaintiff on farm of defendant. The trial was by jury and the jury gave Roudebush a judgement for $34.55. The costs were about SSO. The next case was that of the State vs. three high school boys who were pulled for getting a liltle gay on the street Wednesday night in paddling people passing by with a board. The Squire let them off with a little fatherly advice and the payment of the constable’s fees. There is altogether too much devilment committed here by boys of the uppertendom class, who fail to realize that the public has rights which they should respect. There is a vast difference between innocent sport and that of trespassing upon the rights of others, and there are a great many Rensselaer boys who shonld learn this.
