PAGEANT OF VEILED PROPHETS
Twenty-fifth Annual Display and Ball Are Held at St. Louis—City Brilliantly Illuminated. St Louis, Oct 9.—The twenty-fifth annuel Veiled Prophets’ street pageant and ball, annually conducted under the auspices of the Merchants’ exchange, was held at night It is estimated that St. Louis had over 100.000 visitors within her gates for the occasino. _—, —- The business portion of the city, brilliantly illuminated, was thronged with sightseers. Seventeen floats, commemorative of the purchase of the Louisiana territory, constituted the street parade. After it had passed the Veiled Prophets’ hall was held In the Merchants’ exchange, of which Miss Maud Wells, daughter of the mayor, was crowned queen, inaugurating the beginning of the winter social season In St Louis.
