Following this action the friends in charge of the receptive candidacy of Benjamin Hanchett of Saginaw decUh-d io make no further active efforts in his behalf. This left the const entirely clear for Gen. Alger. The withdrawal of Ferry was made certain by the action of the judicial convention in indorsing the exSeeretary of War for the senatorship.
