Firo Engine Trolley Cars.

A special trolley car for conveying tire engines is in use nt Bprlngtleld, Mass. The engine is carried on a platform only nine and one-half inches above the top of the rail, mounted on a truck at each end. The front truck Is detached and the front end of th« platform lowered to the ground when the engine is to be loaded on the car. Platforms over each truck afford space for firemen and equipment. The length of the car over all is thirty feet ten and a half inches and its net weight it 14,000 pounds. The Springfield tire department has loaded an engine on ont of these cars In two and one-qunrtei minutes from the time the car was in l>ositlon to its being ready to start, and lias unloaded an engine and attached the horses to it in one and oue-quartei minutes. About the maddest thing osa this earth is a woman wearing a white dress caught down town in a rainstorm.
