Our little Chicago sister, Agnes Warnke, who has been visiting with Mr. Behles and family for the past short month, returned to her home, last Monday. Agnes enjoyed life iu the country very much. Her sunny dispositson was such that her friends here, called het "Sunshine.” Quite a few of the young folks of D. V. ana Chicago and a few of the older people called on Hon. I. D. Dunn and family last Sunday evening and enjoyed a very pleasant evening. Mesdames Seegrist and Coffin and Miss Warnke of Chicag;o, enlightened the occasion with soul-stirring instrumental music. We all had a fine time. The oil wells on the Roger farm were shot last Thursday in the presence of the Kankakee Oil company officials and their immediate friends. All that witnessed the feat declared that it was a grand sight. Rocks and dirt were thrown two hundred feet in the air. The very earth close to the wells, trembled like it does when an earthquake is applied to it. The shooting will greatly increase the flow of oil. The pig is ready for market as soon as the cow is presented. Let businesslike precision prevail in the carrying out of the written agreement. The agreement cannot be abrogated without the contest of both of the treaty-making powers, is one of the cardinal articles of international law. The pig and cow, however, are not to blame, but the powers behind the two individual thrones are responsible for the non-carrying out of the treaty. The dance given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pfeil Satirdav evening was a victory for happiness. Everybody that attended the ball was imbued with the spirit of sociability. Young people from Walker and Wheatfield were in attendance and enjoyed themselves with us. The music was furnished by Messers. Dell Brown and Jackson of Wheatfield, in a proffesional manner. Mr. and mis. Heniy Pfeil are ideal entertainers, for all that came were made to feel welcome. BIRTHDAY PARTY. The party given at the home of Robert Zick last Tuesday evening in honor of sister Hattie Warren of Rensselaer was well attended. Thirty five daughters and sons respotfded to the invitations. Games of all kinds were indulged in, until ten o'clock when tht happy crew of earth were conducted to the dining room where they had to face cake ana ice-cream. No one ran, however. All ate in the spirit of animation, especially Doc. and your correspondent. Sister Hattie said the party was a celebration of her birthday and as she was yet speaking the clock of destiny struck sixteen times. All present declared that they they ha<J a fine time. Joy, saith the song, cometh in the morning, but we can truly say that this time it came in the evening. In behalf of all present and also ourself, we wish Hattie a long and happy life and may the beam of sunshine and nappmess dispel all future gloom and cast upon her path of life the golden tints of perpetual joy.
