PULPIT AND PERACHER

The diary of the late Bishop W, X. Ninde, written by his daughter Mary, is now in press. The Ilev. Dr. John Bancroft Devins and John A. Afford have jurehased the New York Observer. The Bishop of Auckland, New Zealand, who died recently, was 71 years of age aud was consecrated in 1860. There were over 500 active Christian Endeavorers, all young men, among the Boer prisoners in the Bermuda Islands. The English conference connected with the United Norwegian Lutheran Church will probably hold its next meeting in Milwaukee. That was a clever alliteration of Dr. Blanchard, when speaking of the reign of the spirit of pleasure: "More golf than God; more cards than Christ.” The Rev. Dr. It. S. MacArthur of the Cahvary Baptist Church, New York, has started on a lecturing tour at various Chautauquas, and will not return to his pulpit until August. The Sunday school people are going to have their next world-wide meeting at Jerusalem. The trip will result in a wider knowledge of holy land than has ever been known before. The Rev. and Mrs. C. E. Varney graduated together this year at Lombard College, Mr. Varney receiving the degree of B. A. and Mrs. Varney that of B. D. The Rev. W. H. York has organised a bicycle club in Centenary Church, Syracuse, N. Y. Every Thursday the members ride to some well chosen place and bold a religious service. If the claim for the beatification of Joseptr'Klang, a Chinese Catholic convert, now being put forward at Rome, is allowed, Klang will be the first native Chinaman to become a Roman Catholic saint
