GET NEARER HOME.
Instead of sending out the ready-made “boiler-plate’’ editorial matter relating to prosperity in Hamilton county, why does not the republican press bureau have the republican papers in each county publish the mortgage statistics of their own county? It would be much more interesting to the readers of those papers, being right at home, and they could easily satisfy themselves as to its reliability. Now we will venture the assertion that Jasper county has been about as prosperous in the past year as the average county of Indiana, having had excellent crops—better than most counties—and received very good prices for them, and yet there were 1400 mortgages recorded in this country during the last fiscal year, amounting to $1,189,642, against 977 statisfactions of mortgage amounting to only $765,256. These are not “fake” statistics, and yet none of the republican papers here have seen fit to publish thein, but use the boiler-plate fakes from far off Hamilton county.
