Jesse James, a farmer of Gurnee Junction, Ala., shot and instantly killed Sam Sols, his brother-in-law, a boy 15 years old. John Windom. aged 18. and James Carter, aged 10, were scalded to death by the explosion of a traction engine near Gainesville, Tex. City Marshal Straup's attempt to arrest Dennis Sheridan at Fort Meyer Fla., resulted in Sheridan being shot and killed and Straup fatally stubbed. Eight companies interested in tile Bath County, Kentucky, oii fieldsewill construct a pipe line to the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. This will put ou the market about 1,200 barrels of oil daily. In the presence of 5,000 spectators witnessing an open-air performance of the "Last Days of Pompeii” In Louisville, Ky., James Dull, known as the "human bomb,” received injuries which will probably result in his death. Henry W. Mears of Baltimore, one of the supreme trustees of the Order of Elks, reports that the order has secured a national home for its aged and indigent members by the purchase of the Hotel Bedford at Bedford City. Va. In the State Legislature of Louisiana the Smith bill passed the Senate and went to the Governor. It bars all histories in the Louisiana public school that do not give complete credit, to Admiral W. S, Schley for the victory of Santiago.
