E. F. Emery writes from lenuing* county that wheat is looking fine there, says he has <>o acres; says he never had a finer clover field and stock looking better. He has 140 head of sheep, 30 head of cattle and 75 head of hogs, all living on clover, and fat. He says his health has been much better there than it was in Jasper county.
GILLAM.
The mail comes to Gillam postoffice every day now. Pad Robinson and Jerry Bishir worked the roads Wednesday. Take your produce to Bishir & Logan i and exchange for groceries. Bart Reed and Jas. Blankenship | bought seed corn Wednesday | Jerry Miller plowed Sirs potatoes and i planted peanuts Wednesday. Jerry is a ! hustler. Mint Hall and Ethel Wren attended : children's day exercises at Medaryville I Sunday. Eii Rockwell and wife visited the formei s father and mother at Wheatheld Sunday. Jas. Blankenship and wife visited friends and relatives at Wheatfield Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Miss Ethel Wren was in Gillam Saturday. She came on horseback, all alone, and rode so fast she broke her watch guard. Namon Lugenbeal batched while Jas. Blankenship and wife went to Wheatj field. Namon says he will have to get I used to it some tune. Mr. Willis and Miss Clara Lutz of Hanging Grove township Sundayed with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Miller and attended church service sat the M. E. church Sunday evening.
INDEPENDENCE.
Rain, rain. Plenty of rain. Llias Arnold has a new driving team. George Aldridge visited with bis parents Sunday. Wm. Daniels and son Guy, were in this vicinity Tuesday. Chesley Wray and wife called on John Renicker Sunday. George Daniels has been shearing sheep for Korah Daniels. Horace Daniels and family spent Sunday with Korah Daniels. Charley Hopkins and wife spent Sunday with his parents, S. H. Hopkins'. Several people from this locality attended the Sunday School Convention at Parr Sunday. John Lesh and family and Chris Morgenegg and Relva Lesh called on l-.lias Arnold's Sunday, Mrs. M. McColly and children of Chicago Heights, spent several days with relatives in this vicinity. The new German Lutheran church will be dedicated to-morrow. There will be all day services and a fiee dinner for everyone, Joe Freshour and family of Kniman, and his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Freshour of Wabash Co., called on S. H. Hopkins Monday. They had not seen each other for a good many years, and they had a good time talking over old times.
NEW LAND.
Miss Day Jordan, who has beenattendmg school at Marion, came home for a visit Saturday.
John Richmond was at Rensselaer one day last week. Herman Ahlers of Francesvilie, was a Newland visitor Satnrday. Clarence White of Zadoc, was a Newland visitor one day last week. Callahan & Gifford will give a ball in their new house, Friday night, June 13. Mr. and Mrs. Gorbet of Dwight 111. are visiting Theodore DeMoss and family, west of town. John Burris and Barney Newland were initiated into the mysteries of the Red Men Saturday night. We understand it has been reported around Rensselaer that our onions were all drowned out. This is a mistake, we have had lots of rain but it hasn't hurt our onion crop at all. They are clean and a good stand, and we never had better prospects for a crop than we have at present. The corn was damaged in low places where the water stood. Outside of the low places we can't see as the rains did any harm at all.

Mr. «nd Mrs. Lamar spent Sunday at Palestine. Wm. Hoover returned home to Hammond Saturday. John Lowe cf Monon, was here buying cattle Monday. Simon Cook and family visited her parents in Lee Sunday. The deputy surveyor of White County was a caller here Friday. Rev. Peter Foulks of Milroy, attended Sabbath School at Lee Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Sommers spent Saturday and Sunday at Francesvilie. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Allen of Rankin, visited at Ewing Doualdson's Sunday. Since the recent rains the fish have been every day callers in the corn fields. Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Jacks of Monon, and Mrs. Wm. Hoover were Bunday visisors at S. J. Johnson’s. O. A. and Sam Jacks and families attended the funeral of their uncle, Mark Lewis, at Remington last week. E. H. Wood is staying in Monon, attending the office of Trustee Brown, and Mrs. B. Sparrow is visiting at the farm during her father's absence in town.

Come to Dunn's Bridge 4th of July celebration. Miss Nancy Gross was the guest of Mrs. Fanny Claspell last Monday. The next time that Bill Shirergoesto the Wheatfield hotsl he will take milk along. Lu says that she hopes that Abe will bring her the strawberries that he promised her. Peter Behles and son Joe, and daughter Maggie, did shopping at Valpo last Monday. Messrs John Beheles and Will Jeffries wish gentlemen correspondents. Ladies need not apply. Miss Elsie Hughes, who has been quite sick for the past few days is some better at this writing. We understand that Mr. Virgie has corn knee high. Mr. Virgie is an all around agriculturist. Grandma Miles, who has been quite sick for the past few days] is rapidly gaining at this writing. Olda Vandercar of Grant Park, lU., visited his parents and friends for the past few Olda is blossoming into a carpenter. We wish to thank Messrs i-'isher and Fendig for the able manner in which they represented northern Jasper democracy at the state convention.
George Sands was the guest of Miss Myrtle Yocum last Sunday evening. Watch out for Charlie Z , George. He is eating scraping food now. James Newhouse visited friends at his old home at RushviUe, Ind., a few days the first of the week. Jim says he was Hobson ized by all his old neighbors. Mrs. John Shreiber and Miss Bessie Fairchild went to Indianapolis on the Excursion last Sunday. Bessie was the guest of her mother-in-law last Monday. We spent a very enjoyable evening with Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Claspel at San Pierre last week. We ate cake until Aaron said: “See here, feliow, we don’t run a restaurant.” Messrs Otto Shrader, Will Wilmington, Olda Yandercar and yourCor. and the Misses Celestie and Mamie Yocum and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur White were Indianapolis callers last Sunday. —-* Ed Allen, our oil expert and manager of the oil company operating North of of this place and around WiTders, is as busy as a bee now. Mr. and Mrs. Allen occupy the Milt Jones property. Misses May Witt, Netta Miller, and Irene Fraz-er and Joe Hillard arrived home from Yalpo a few days ago. Goodness, they use big words. Their fellows have purchased new dictionaries. Joe expects to go another year. Lon Nees, our hustling liveryman, will establish a buss line between Dunnville and Dunn's Bridge the 4th of July. So come, ye inhabitants of Jasper county, and enjoy a day with us. No matter on what train you come, the buss will meet you.
SOUTH NEWTON.
Plenty of rain at present. Mrs. Elijah was at Mrs. Battleday's Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Uorsewood were at Mr. Hugh's Monday. Mrs. H. C. Pierson, Miss Belle Wood and Ona Shindler were at W. L. Bringle's Monday. Several from this vicinity attended children’s services at Mount Hope Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Harry Elijah, Mrs. W. L. Bringle and Christie Flock were at Helen Elijah's last Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Pierson and James Scott attended church at Beaver City last Sunday morning. John Karr of Chicago, spent Saturday night and Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Karr. Miss Phoebe Karr, who has been attending school at Marion College, returned home last Friday. Mr. Bruner passed through this vicinity one day this week, contracting to put in a phonr for W. L. Bringle ana W. B. Yeoman at their homes.
FAIR OAKS.
Bruce Moflfitt went to Chicago Sunday. Mr. Dodge delivered hogs to James Babcock Monday. Sam Thornton, sister, wife and mother visited Miles Moftit's last Sunday. Mrs. Hall bought property in the west part of town last week of Mr. Podge. Mrs. John Munden of Momence, visited John's parents the first of the .week. George Marion moved to town last Monday. He occupies the Brooks property. The material for the new elevator is on the ground and work will begin at once. The Misses Proudley, Ferguson T. J. Mallatt and daughter Pearl, went to Lowell last Sunday. William Keigour's and family arrived here from Mississippi Friday. They occupy Cottingham's property.
The bill game which took place here last Saturday between the Fair Oaks nine and Parr nine, resulted in a tie. Mrs. T. W. Fry went to Demotte the first of the week to visit her daughter, Mrs. Scott Harrington, for a few days. Uncle William Cox and wife and son Jim and family went to Chicago Heights last Thursday to visit relatives, returning Sunday eve. P. H. Zea and family aud Ike Thomas and family were called to Remington the first of the week to James Zea’s, whose wife Suffered a paralytic stroke. She was not expected to live. There was a young cyclone passed through about two miles south of here las. Friday, traveling in a northeasterly direction. It blew quite a good many trees down. It struck a bouse four miles north of here, where Alexander Leach lived, tore the smoke house all to pieces and Mr. Leach was struck in the head by a board or rail and cut quite a gash which had to be sewed up. Mrs. Leach and one of the boys were more or less burt.
GLENDALE.
Plenty of rain. John Collins returned home from Illinois Thursday. The platform dance was well attended Monday night. Walter Gasper was a passenger to Indianapolis Sunday. John Burget of Francesviile, was out to his farm Monday. Frank Walters has bought a new buggy. Look for Frank, girls. Mr. Parker of McCovsburg, called on Albert Parker's Wednesday eve. George Bishop took dinner with A. S. Freeman and family Wednesday. John Tillet returned home last Thursday with a bran-new rubber tired rig. Miss Jessie Evans and Mrs. Blair of Peru, are visiting friends and relatives here this week There was a dashing charge made by the Rough Riders Sunday from Collins’ residence to the river. “Practice makes perfect.” said Frank, with a smile, as he looked at the cigarette he had just rolled. Frank Tillett, Albert Parker, John Tibet and Tim Lawerv went fishing Wednesday hut returned with what the bov shot at. iames Lawery, while hauling tile the er day, went to sleep and fell off of his wagon with the spring seat on his head. You had better go to bed earlier, Jim.

Henry Philips was in LaPorte Saturday John Pinter and son, Louts, are on the sick list. Mr. A. S. Keen has a new beauty. It is a I2oj pound safe. Miss Elva East spent the Sabbath with Manda Funk at Kniman. Miss Webo of Coshocton, Ohio, is 1 visiting relatives near this place. Schuyler Asch of Chicago, fees in town the hrst of the week on business. Mrs. Philipps was called to LaPorte, Tuesday to attend the funeral of her aunt. Miss Capitola Swisher is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Fred Fuller, at Rose Lawn. Mrs. Della Gilbranson of Vslma, attended commencement exercises here Thursday. Mr., and Mrs. Will Helmick and daughter returned home Monday evening after a fortnight's visitjwith their parents.
Bernice and Herbert Hammond are visiting relatives a*. Rsnsselaer. Mrs. Gertie Haves and. children of Heights, are guests of her mother, Mrs. Mark Ktmpp. Mrs. Schwier Mrs. Hurst of Logansport, were guests of - Dr.-and Mrs. Schwier last week. Mrs. Stanley and two grandchildren of South Bend, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jackson. Mrs. Lemma Jensen of Pleasant Grove, vsited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Whittaker, this week. Zelma Funk left Thursday evening ior an extended visit with friends and relatives in western Ohio and eastern Indiana. Miss Clara Hoehn returned to her home at Kaukakee Monday and her mother, Mrs. George Hoehn, Br., came to cook for her husband and sons. ' Born, to George Laberge and wife, June U, a son, and to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schatzly, June to, a daughter. The latter infant lived but a short time. Misses Minnie Tinkham and Cora Finney and Messrs Will Mutcher, Tom Jensen, Will Asher and Ben Knapp left for Valparaiso, Monday to attend the summer term at the Normal. Maggie aud Orrin Tilton, who have been visiting their aunt, Mrs, Fanny Hitch, at Francesvilie, came borne Wednesday accompanied by their cousin, Miss Tracy Hitch. Several changes have taken place in town. Hendrickson moved his barber tools into his new shop north of the bank; the printing office was moved into the Giloranson building; Marion’s moved to Fair Oaks, and our teamster, Paul Possin, moved his family and belongings into the Dachnke residence on Grove street. Commencement exercises were held here June 12th in Stembel’s new haybarn. The barn was arranged into an amphitheater by means of baled hay. There were sixteen graduates from Walker, Wheatfield, Kankakee and Keener tps., and Wheatfield town. The music was furnished by Wheatfield choral club. The themes and music were rendered in a very agreeable manner. The class address by Prof. Herring of South Bend was very good. It was an enjoyable day for all.
