THE HY6ENIC CARE OF THE TEETH IH RELATION TO HEALTH. J. W. HORTON, DENTIST. ft bout the Cost,,, It isn’t the rule that the highest prices must be paid to get the best dental work—but the kind you should buy naturally costs a little more than the kind you don't want at any price—and will certainly be worth many times the difference. Let me examine your teeth—tell you what they require—and what my charges will be foi the work. It will not cost anything to advise with me about it—then you can go where you think best for the work.

RELATION OF TEETH TO HEALTH AND LENGTH OF LIFE. ILL-HEALTH is more often due to abuses of the digestive system than to any other cause. Improper food and irregularity of meals are potent factors, but no one thing has more to do with the condition of the stomach and digestive system than the condition of the mouth and teeth. Unless the food is properly masticated, that is, finely chewed and well mixed with the saliva, it enters the stomach in a condition unfit for digestion. As a consequence, the digestive organs are over- - worked, and the body is not supplied with proper nourishment. How important it is, therefore, to take proper care Of the mouth and teeth. From an ethical standpoint, no face is so beautiful but that bad teeth will mar it. nor is any face so homely that well preserved teeth will not lend an aspect of refinement.

DECAY AND ITS CAUSES. - IHE decay of the teeth is due to the accumulation of bacteria (small-vegeta-ble organisiiis)and food particles lodging in the spaces between the teeth. The bacteria cause the food particles to putrefy, and fermentation is set iip. During the process of fermentation, acids are set free which attack the enamel, or hard outer coating of the teeth, eventually eating it away. The enamel once destroyed the decay of the soft inner portion of the tooth follows rapidly, cavities are formed, and finally the whole tooth structure collapses unless attended to by a competent dentist. Therefore, to prevent the dissolution of the teeth, it is absolutely necessary to use every precaution to preserve the sound teeth, and to have the diseased ones promptly and properly treated by a dentist.

LETTER FROM MYERS & MYERS.
Wheatfield; Ind. Apr. 20. Editor Democrat: We arrived home ease and sound Wednesday morn, after an absence of three and one-half months. Thinking a little summing of the expense of such a trip might interest some of the readers who are contemplating a trip, we add this postscript to our series of letters Our tickets to Ocala and return, good till May 31st, wwe purchased through tbe Monon Co. and cost us $51.25 each from Wheatfield. Our traveling outfit, horse, wagon and harness, cost us about SIOO, and we sold it for $75, so the actual expense of the rig lor three mouths travel was $25. Our actual living expenses for ourselves, horse and dog were $57, including some local railroad fare. We took from home butter, coffee and tea for the entire trip and neariy all our ammunition. So it will be seen that S2OO covers all expenses including all we took from home, all we gave away and everything. We can say to our friends that WE think in no other way, can so much good be got out of S2OO. We think our health much better than if we had staid here through tbe cold winter. We have gathered many new ideas, formed new friendships, had a complete rest and change from our work here and come home with renewed strength and zeal for the work before us In all, we consider it a very pleasant and profitable trip and hope all our friends can “go and do likewise.” We take this opportunity to thank the editor of The Democrat for favors shown and hope our relations in the future may be equally pleasant. SOUTH DAKOTA LETTER.
Miller, S. D., April 20. Mr. Babcock;—l thought I would write you a few lines. I want the paper sent to Miller, South Dakota. Send me the back numbers from April 11th. I find this country to be in a prosperous condition. Cattle are now living on grass and people tell me that they have not fed any grains all winter and their stock is in better condition than our cattle in Indiana. In the fall, when they get through with their horses, they turn them out and don’t get them up until they want.to go to work in tho spring, and they come off the grass in very near as good flesh as the stock does in Indiana in the fall. Young men get $25 per mouth on the farm. The land-owners rent their far ms for J where the tenant furnishes seed and tools. Where the landlord furnishes setd, feed and tools they get and also furnish cows and give half the calves and half the butter, or milk, if you sell it. I did not get here in time to get a farm with stock, so 1 have moved to the county seat and am working at my trade, stone masonery and plastering. I struck a job right away and was offered $4 a day, by the day. I may stop here for some time but I think I will go either to the Big Horn Valley in Wyoming, where I can get a homestead/ or to North Dakota. Publish this if you think it worth while. I haven’t tried to flatter the country in the least. Yours Respectively,
C. J. MARTIN.

FROM MARSHAL COUNTY.
Plymouth, Ind., April, 23, Mr. Editor: I thought I would write a few lines, thinking perhaps you might want to hear from us. We are located on East Laporte St. We are doing fairly well and are very well pleased with the city. This city is located 24 miles south of South Bend and 84 miles east of Chicago. The popu lation is above 4,000. There are some very good buildings here and I believe this is a greater place for people to cotne to town on Saturday than Rensselaer. There was a pretty big fire here yesterday afternoon. The electric light plant, two blacksmith shops, one barn and ice house burned to the ground Some dozen dwelling houses caught fire but by heroic work of the fire department and also the citizens the fire was got under control. TliQ-fire is supposed to have started from a passing locomotive on the Ft. Wayne R. R. They are doing lots of work on the Ft. Wayne road this summer. On last Monday there was a young man using dynamite for blasting on the road when a stick of the explosive he was holding in his band was discharged, blowing him about 30 feet high, and killing him instantly. Well, I will close for this time. If you think this worth publishing all right. If not, consign it to the waste basket.
