Jasper County Democrat, Volume 4, Number 42, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 25 January 1902 — Self-Confidence. [ARTICLE]
Self-Confidence.
If I could have my way, you bet, *Twould be a different earth. I’d still the echoes of regret And wake the sounds of mirth. I would avoid the fierce extremes That hurt us day by day; And overturn Fate’s hateful schemes To bring us all dismay. Our ills would not be quite so ill To aggravate our lot; The cold would not be quite so chill; The heat not quite so hot. I'd live in moderate bliss, you know, And never get too gay. But mebbe folks would say, "It’s slow,” If I could have my way. —Washington Star.
