There is still another beautiful legend concerning the origin of the Order of the Garter. One day EdwaTd VI., or it may have been William 11., was addressing the barons of the realm. “I look to you for support!” said the King. “And not in vain, old socks!” said the barons feelingly. Hereupon his majesty, In token of his appreciation of the touching Incident, made them all knights of the garter, or hose supporter.—Detroit Journal.
