DE MOTTE.

Sam Luce has been on the sick list, but is better at this writing. G. TV. and virs. Cover were the guests of Mrs. Shreeves last Sunday. Mrs. W. Lewis ot Rensselaer, spent last wesk in DeMotte visiting friends. Mrs. Merritt whose sickness was metioned some weeks ago, died Sunday morning. Mrs James Pinkerton of the Troxell House, is visiting with relatives at Rochelle. 111. Among the friends attending the funeral of Mrs. John Merritt *as Turner Merritt and wife from Remington, and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Leavel. of Rensselaer. A fishing party passed through our village from Rensselaer yesterday, enroute for the Kankakee. Nothing has been heard of them since. Some little anxiety is felt for two of the parties. Mr. J. M. Troxell and G. W. Cover, as they are not so active as in their younger days. There are some monstrous dugtish in the river, and it is feared they might get the advantage of our venerable friends. OBITUARY. Mrs. Sally A. Merritt, wife of 1. R. Merritt, died Oct. 2*. 11*01. aged 42 years. 11 months. 2 days. Funeral. Oet. 21, at the residence at 1 p. m.. attendi-d by a large assembly. Services conducted by Rev s. R. Shreeves. The deceased united with the Christian church when only 12 years old and lived a consistent member over 32 years. She leaves a husband and six children, two boys and four girls, to mourn their loss. But their loss is her eternal gain.
