"BRICK ARE GOOD.”
So Says Expert Employed to Superintend Street Paving. The work of laying the brick pavement about the public square began Monday afternoon and good progress has been made thus far in the work. An inspector was emplojei by the city to see that the work was done as it should be and that only good brick were used. He is from South Bend and comee highly recommended. The city pays him $4 per day for superintending the work, and it is the general opinoin that it was a wise move in securing such a superintendent. Regarding the quality of the brick used, he says they are all right and the same as are used in other cities. Some few of the brick, of course, are rejected, but comparatively few. Some were chipped off on the corners in shipping and occasionally one is rejected that is not burned bard enough. Taken as a whole however, they are of good quality and the work is seemingly being done in an excellent manner. While the necessity for paving these three blocks is a mooted question, every one seems of the opinion that the improvement is of a character that will last for many years to come.
