COUNCIL MEETING.
nakemself Sewer Petition Dismissed and Library Tax Levied. The common council met in regular session at the city hall Monday night with all members present. As no plan& and specifications imd Lceu made for Makenseif sewer and to re-advertise, etc., would put the matter off so long that little could be done toward it this season, the city attorney recommended that the petition be dismissed, which was done by a unanimous tote. John A. Penrod of South Bend, was employed at $4 per day and car fare as brick inspector for the paving being done* about the public square. Permission was given C. D. Nowels to build a brick and frame wash room, 13x20, in the rear of his hotel building. Cement side walks were ordered on east side Franklin street, blocks 17-20, to connect with walk on Oak street. Rules were suspended and an ordinance adopted requiring Mary E. Thompson, Delos Thompson and Ora T. Ross to construct a cement sidewalk along their property on the east side of the Remington gravel road, said work to begin within five days. An ordinance was also passed under suspension of rules levying the Jasper Public Library tax as voted by the township at the last general election, and the clerk ; notified to certify the levy to the auditor at once. This settles the the matter and places the tax upon both the city and township alike. Fire Chief Hopkins reported that Christie Vick and True Woodworth had each served one month’s probation and recommnded that they be accepted as members of the fire department, which was done.
