IS AGAINST STREET FAIRS.
Starke County Democrat Says They Are Currupting. i Street fairs are generally run on tbe “wide-open” plan, something like Rensselaer’s last 4th of July celebration, and as such are generally admitted to be very demoralizing. Referring to tbe late street fair held at Knox, the Starke County Democrat says: “It will probably be some time before another street fair is held in Knox. Certainly no more should be held until the money required can be raised without appealing to those whose financial interests are prompted by bringing in a horde of dissolute and shameless characters, and who assume that a liberal contribution entitles them to that privilege. This newspaper sincerely regrets the necessity for condeming anythipg that professes to have for its object the betterment of Knox. But the vice and lawlessness that prevailed for four days last week are inseparably < o.mected with the street fair—hence it has no choice but to condemn them if it cares to retain its self respect or the respect of its patrons— and it does.”
