W. N. Parrott, a merchant of Oneida, Tenn., was shot and killed. James West is under arrest charged with the crime. E. IL Conn of Newport, Ky., was killed and August Helmer of Cripple Creek was fatally injured in a runaway accident nt Buena Vista, Cold. John Arnold of Hoover’s Gnp, Tenn., under indictment for criminal assault, was found dead on the roadside with a load of buckshot in his back. Frank Erie, n negro desperado, who held up and robbed a commissary clerk, was taken from the Vidalia, Gn., jail by a crowd of unknown men and shot to death. *■ Mrs. George J. Jones of Dandridge, Tenn., swallowed hntf a teaspoonful of strychnine, thinking it was quinine, at Shady Grove, Tenn., and died iu twenty minutes. A boiler in the sawmill of the Winyab Lumber Company at Georgetown, 8. C., exploded, almost totally wrecking the plant, killing three negroes und seriously injuring several others. The ammonia tank at the Memphis I<e Company's factory In Memphis, Tenn, exploded, wrecking the works, killing Engineer John Smith anj fatally injuring a stranger named Harrington. Democratic State executive committee of South Carolina, by decree of Senator Tillman, passed a resolution demanding the resignation of Senator McLaurin on charge of treachery to the party. In Louisville, Ky., Max Belovitch. n cignrmaker, and Policeman James Purden were burned to death while trying to rescue women and children from flames. Ths fire destroyed the property of the
Badgely-Graham Photographic Supply Company. A general cigarmakers* strike was officially declared at Tampa, Fla. This is a strike of all La Resistencia workmen, about 5,000 in number, because the International Union men were at work in their factories. The men did not leave the feretories at once, but agreed to close up the day’s work and then walked out.
