CREED REVISION WINS.
Presbyterian Assembly Adopt* the Majority Report. After n contest that has lasted many yeatC the progressive party in the Presbyterian Church of the United State* has tjained its first substantial victory. The general assembly has voted for a partial revision, and for a restatement of eerta'n doctrines of the faith. llow much of a restatement this will lead to or how great a revision will be made is unimportant in comparison with the movement itself, which has broken down the strong wail that has hitherto fenced off the Westminster confession of faith as something peculiarly holy, uot to be touched by the hand of man. In adopting the majority report of the committee on creed revision the Philadelphia assembly went on record formally as favoring a new summary of the confession. YVithhout unnecessary delay or oratory the last step toward manifesting it® will was taken Monday forenoon, and the most important business that has come before the body of commissioners in nufny years was transacted. Moderator Henry Collin Minton will name the special commission to formulate a shorter statement .to be of equal authority with the present standards, and the summary this commission prepares will be submitted next May. If adopted it will be sent down to the presbyteries for ratification to become a part of the constitution of the church. In addition to the above business the assembly decided to hold it* next meeting in New York as the guest of the Fifth Avenue Church. It is generally predicted that at that time the mortgage on tho Presbyterian building in New York will be burned. Los Angeles was the other leading competitor for the assembly, but was defeated.
