David Henderson, a distiller of Henderson, Ky., was instantly killed by the explosion of a keg of yeast. The monument to Henry Timrod was unveiled in Charleston, S. C. It consists of a bronze bust in heroic size and panels on a granite pedestal and base. Fire in Jacksonville, Fla., devastated 130 blocks, entailing a loss estimated at $15,000,000. Six lives are reported lost. Twelve thousand persons were rendered homeless. The towboat Raymond Horner sunk thirteen barges of Pittsburg coal in collision with a pier of the Henderson, Ky., bridge. The loss in coal and barges will reach $45,000. A car of whisky, brandies, labels, dies and caps, said to be spurious, was captured at Eastman, Ga., by a United States deputy marshal. The car was consigned to an Atlanta firm. The board of directors of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition Company held its first meeting and organized for business. Ex-Gov.* David 11. Francis was unanimously elected president of the board. A large baud of masked men near Middlesboro, Ky., wrecked the residence Of John Turner, who is a member of the Turner faction in the Turner-Williams feud. They also burned his stable and outhouses. In Dallas, Texas, lightning struck the new six-stdry block owned by the South-
ern Rock Island Plow Company. The building was rated a fireproof warehouse structure, but in less than an hour It wap a total loss. It was filled with wagomi, buggies and agricultural machinery. The value of the stock is estimated at from $300,000 to $400,090, and the building at approximately SIOO,OOO.
