Had Spring Fever.
7 Last Saturday was the first day of the season to produce spring fever germs. So pronounced was this that even the $2,300 court house clock early begun to show symptons of this popular warm weather disorder, and the hesitating way in which it tolled off the hours demonstrated that it was a severe case. By evening the disease had secured such a foothold that its balks, halts and stops were quite generally commented upon, and Sunday morning it was found that it had- “given up the ghost” and absolutely refused to work at all. All day Sunday the ■‘strike” rested, but Monday morning Charlie Morlan, the janitor laboriously climbed the winding stairs to the. instrument’s “liar” and administered several doses of sassafras tea which a Nubbin Ridge republican advocated as a “right smart” spring tonic, and soon evidences of life began to be heard, growing more and more regular and strong as the tea got in its work until now the clock is convalescing nicely and will no doubt soon be entirely recovered—for the present at least.
