EVENTS OF THE WEEK
The opera house at McDonald, Pa., was partly destroyed by fire. A church fair was in progress in the building at the time, and a wild rush was made for the exits. In the panic a number of persons were slightly hurt, but no one seriously. An attempt was made to assassinate C. J. Me Lear, proprietor of the Catching Hotel of London, Ky. It is supposed thnt some negro tired the shot, which missed MrLeur only a few indies, while lie was sitting near the frout window in the hotel office. A fire occurred in the factory district of Decatur, 111., which resulted in a loss of probably SIOO,OOO. The wholesale grocery house of Mueller, Platt A Wheels nd, n five-story brick building, was destroyed, aud adjoining property badly damaged. Edward E. Balch, assistant cashier of the Omaha National Bank, has brought suit against, the Pullman company for the sum of s,'*o,ooo damages. While traveling 011 a Pullman ear last summer Mr. Balch was badly beaten by men who tried to rob him. The Kimberly, Wis., mills of the KimIterly <fc Clark Company took fire, nnd before the finmes were subdued the dam age done was estimated at $500,000. While assisting at the fire I).
