The February term of court began Monday. The week has been taken up with probate matters, setting causes for trial and hearing a lew minor cases. The jury is called for the Third Monday of the term, and it is expected to try all jury cases during that week. Following is a brief report of the more important proceedings thus far: State vs. Sigman, incest; indictment quashed as faulty and the state given until Friday, Feb. 15, to prepare new papers. We understand that the prosecuting witness declined to make another affidavit, and Friday morning the young man was discharged. State vs. Marshall, libel; defendent moves to quash, court holds language set forth in complaint as insufficient to create action, and new affidavit was prepared. The case will probably be set for trial the third week. Halligan vs. Geo. W. Tanner and S. A. Dowell, note; judgement for $869.37, costs and SSO attorney fees. Ordered that property of defendant Tanner be exhausted before proceeding against defendant Dowell. s Morris vs. Board of Commissioners of Jasper county, the old action continued from term to term for about a year or more, to enjoin further collection of taxes on the notorious Keener tp:, gravel roads; passed, and will probably be again continued. The bids were opened by the Judge Wednesday forenoon and were as follows: G. E. Marshall, 45 *cents per page; Jasper County Democrat, 39 cents per page. The bid of the latter was accepted. This is 9 cents per page less than the price paid Marshall last year, at which letting The Democrat was not invited to ibid. One amusing feature of the | last letting was that the cow-pun-cher came moseying in Wednesday afternoon, several hours after Judge Thompson had awarded the j contract with his bid, which was i 50 cents per page. Among the out of town attorneys | having business here in court | this week wefe: Ira W. Yeoman, ! Jasper Guy of Remington; Wm. Cummings and Wm. Darroch, i Kentland; Ex-Prosecuter Chizum of Morroco.
