Berlie Barks was a Rensselaer caller Wednesday. Mrs. Rob’t. Barker was sick several <lays last week. Fred H jwman of Monticello, spent Sunday at home. John Allman of Wolcott, was a Remington caller Tuesday. Mrs. Emma Traugh of Good land, was a Remington caller Tuesday. Miss Emma Buell of Wolcott, visited friends in Remington Sunday. John Bowman began clerking in AHman’s haidware store last week. John Walker of Rensselaer, was 'tending "court" here Sunday evening. Messers Bert Rich and Earl Thompson went to Valparaiso Monday to attend School. Miss Oma Ferguson of Wolcott, spent Saturday and Sunday with Miss JDaisy Canine. Miss Grant of near Logansport, was the guest of Miss Jennie Beal several <Ja\s last week. Township Trustee-elect A. J. Bellows was in Rensselaer Wednesday to file Bis official bond. Mr. Geo. Reigle went to Valparaiso Wednesday to bye with his sister Mrs. Pool, formerly of this place. Mis. Chris Harmon returned to her hon e in Macomb. 111., after spending several days with Miss Alice Harmon. The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Dunn died Monday and was buried at the Catholic cemetery Wednesday morning. The Trapper’s Daughter was plaved Tuesday night at the Austin Opera 11 ouse to a small audience. Specialties were tine. Bred Griffin, and family moved in •with the formers father this week, the house he recently occupied having been sold to Win. Geier. Berlie Balks has sold his interest in the grocery store to J»is partner, Mr. Tnbby, and Mr. Elsworth Shearer is clerking at his old stand again Miss Jessie Miller, formerly of Remington, was married to Mr. W. A.Brandt, a farmer residing near Frankfott, recently. Jessie's many friends here extend congratulations. Otis Hunt, of N, Y., who has been visiting Ins mother for several weeks, went to Chi cago Monday where he will remain a short time then will go to Denver, Col. to remain the rest of the winter. J. A. La inborn will turn the trustee’s office of Carpenter tp., over tohis successor to-day. John has held the office for six years, and probably been one of the best and most law-abiding trustees iu Jasf>re county. May his shadow never grow ess. The ladies McKinley Club gave a reception in honor of the Rough Riders, Drum corps, Remington Band, and the officers of the Lincoln League club and the u wives at the Austin Opera House iMmiday night Nov. 12, and a jolly good time is reported.

John was exceedingly happy. - George r Blocher of the province of Wheatfield, was a business caller in these parts Monday. Levi Renicker of Rensselaer, is husking corn for Grant Renicker. Levi just rolls the corn in, but the corn pretty near rolls in Levi. Mr. D. V., that old pie-eating buffalo of the Kankakee Valley region, was in these parts Thursday. He says everything ts democratic tqi-there.

Carl Wiegeld went to Chicago lor a visit this week. Herman Alders was at Rensselaer Thursday on business. Clarence Nichols of Morocco; is visiting friends in this vicinity this week. John Kimble has been visiting friends t Chicago Heights for a few days. Miss Mamie Aiders is staying with Mrs. Meckling at Comer, this week. Ownie Callahan is very sick this week with pleurisy. Dr. Johnson is attending him. Thurman Smith’s friends, who have been visiting him this week, returned home Thursday. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Meckling of Comer, on Saturday, a girl. Both mother and child are doing nicely. J. H. McN'eese went to Attica Thursday in response to a telegram received Wednesday night stating that one of his partners iu the railroad works was in trouble.

Spriggs has traded his farm for one in Pulaski county.' .. . - Otto Kennedy of the west side, will take a|course in telegraphy at Wheatfield, under the tutorship of Frank Scott. Win. Hershman recently presented ] an organ to the lately organized Chris- 1 tain church of West Vernon schoolhouse. j O. H. Eldred, who was taken violently j sick at election, had two sons taken j likewise. Cause unknown. All are j about well now. The teacher of Norway school has announced that his schoolwill give an entertainment and social at the schoolhouse, Saturday evening, Nov. 24. Trustee elect Zick filed his bond in the sum of £5,000 last Saturday. He will take the office Nov. 17, Mike Zick, F. M. and J. R. Hershman are his bondsmen. The following democrats were elected in tins township Nov. 6: Trustee, Robert Zick ; tries Armstrong;justice of the peace, Lewis Zick; constables, John Schriber, Laban C. Beck and Stephen Salrin; supervisors, J. L. Smith, J. M. Spriggs, Lee Armstrong and Joseph Salrin. Joseph B. son of Joseph and Edna Salrin, died Friday Nov. q. at to p. in., aged 1 year 2 months and 8 days. Although the little one apparently had never been wetland hopes for rearing him had been abandoned, his death at the time was entirely unexpected and was a severe shock to his affectionate parent s. Funeral services were, held Sunday from tin- Hersnman schoolhouse, conducted by Rev. Sines. A large number ot sympathizing friends accompanied the parents and relatives to the Hershinan cemetery where the remains were laid to their last slep.

Cold, colder, coldest. Mr. Mac Rockwell, who has been quite sick, is better at this writing. Rev. Calton of Judson, preached a fine sermon at D. V. Sundav evening. Our livery barn has changed proprietors. Roach & Schock have been succeeded bv N'iece & Niece. Give them a call. Mr. Frank Fisher our outgoing assessor has also made a record that he can he proud of. His party can look hack at his record with pride. W. S. DeArmond has purchased the house and lot previously owned by Marion Sands. Wilson Reddin has rented the same until spring. Mrs. Addie Lyons, who has been visiting her narents, Mr. and Mrs. Sands, has departed for New YoiJ<. She intends to make that her future home. Rev. Thorpe of Judson, preached a fine sermon at D. V. Sunday evening. His subject was Heaven. It was the ablest discourse lhat we ever heard on the subject. Although nationally defeated, we are not vanquished. A defeat does not destroy. VVe, as true American citizens, will abide by the decision of the American people. Mr. Dari Chamberlain and Miss Sadie Leon, our D. V’..daughter, were united in matrimony at Streator, 111. We wish them a long and happy life, full of agreeable surprises. Miss Mattie Witt was the rabbit-eating guest of Mrs. Nancy Booth last Sunday. They carry the feet of the unhappy rabbits in their pockets as a gentle reminder of a good time. The teachers of Wheatfield and Kankakee townships held a joint institute at D. V. last Saturday. We believe that the institute was composed of the smartest and best looking teachers in the County. Such was the universal verdict at least. Mr. John Kaupke, our outgoing trustee, has made a record that no other man can beat. Democrats and republicans vie with each other in applauding his economical and business like administration. Two bridge petitions were also continued in Cilia in; 1 in Marion, 2 in Walker; 2 in Jordan and one iu Newton. Advertisement ordered for one new bridge in Jordun. The old claim of $375 of the Art Metal Construction Co., for vault furniture for the recorder’s office, was again continued. —- Claim of theßurt-Terry Stationery Co., stationery for the county, $118.50, was again continued.
