Favorite of Queen Victoria.

Everybody khows that Queen Victoria prefers Marie Corelli’s novels to those of almost any other writer. This young woman who is always provoking discussion and stirring up literary trouble of some sort or other has lived since infancy in a literary atmosphere, her stepfather, Dr. Mackay, and stepmother, Eric Mackay, both being known as poets. Miss Corelli is not fond of fads. She does not ride a wheel, though she is an adept at rowing. Cigarettes she abhors nnd flowers and books are her relief from work. In the highlands of Scotland she has a cliarmlitg cottage surrounded by silver birches nnd here she asks congenial friends to visit her. Some of Miss Corelli’s works have been dramatized, though not by her. Nearly every novel she has written of late years has contained some fling at society or the existing order of things and as a result tlie author lias found her books boomed by the papers which have scolded her In type. She Is young, ■mall and said to be pretty, with fair, curling hair and blue eyes.
