MAINE RETURNS COMPLETED.
Republican* Carry the State by 33,• 500 Plurality. Completed return* from 250 towns and plantations out of 512 in the State of Maine gave Hill (Rep.). 55,524, and Lord (Dem.), 30,252. Same places four year* ago gave Powers (Rep.), G 0,574, and Frank (Dem.), 24,784. On this basis it was estimated that the Republican plurality this year would be about 33,500. Congressman Amos L. Allen, Charles E. Littlefield, Edwin 0. Burleigh and Charles Bootelle are re-elected by majorities ranging from 0,000 to 10,000. In all but one of the sixteen counties the Republicans elected their county tickets. The Legislature is about the same as at present. In Kansas City the negro principal of a school for colored children has been buyin* poorer grade houses in select whits neighborhoods, where owners of adjacent property bought him out at an exorbitant advance In order to keep out colored neighbors. He admits having done thia, but claims to be within his rights. Miss Priscilla Higgins, 14, New York, swam across New York bay from Fort Hamilton to St. George, Staten Island, a distance of eight miles, in two hours and r minutes.
