Itichatd Croker, as .the risk of hht own life', saved his partner, Peter F. Meyer, from d rowping. Joseph Mullen watt electrocuted in the New York State prison at Sing Sing. He murdered his wife in New York City June 4, 1898. Mrs. Susan Allan Miller, 45 years old, was married at Amityville, L. 1.,1 to Charles Wilmot Drummand, aged 22 years, of New London, N. Y. Three irop concerns in New York have made an assignment. The failures are said to be due to an inability to compete with the iron and steel trust. Mrs. Mary Meyerhauck, 37 yhars'old, was found dead in her bed at Hoboken, N. J., with marks on her face and head which indicate that she had been beaten and kicked to death. Her husband is missing. One person was killed and many others were bndly shaken up in a rear-end collision on the Fifth avenue branch of the Brooklyn Union Elevated Railroad in New York. The victim of the wreck was Walter H. Young, a brakeman. Charles 1(. Eastman, assistant instructor of zoology at Agassiz museum, Harvard University, charged with the murder of his brother-in-law, Richard H. Grogan, Jr., was discharged by Judge Almy in the Cambridge District Court for want of probable cause. J. I*. Hoffman, an old-time counterfeiter, was arrested by Secret Service Operative Boms at his lodgings in Philadelphia. A search of his apartments disclosed a large number of bogus half-dol-lars, together with molds nnd other paraphernalia used by counterfeiters. The second fire of mysterious origin within six months at the Charlestown, Mass., navy yard occurred the other night and destroyed the old spar shed, oue of the largest buildings there, with seventy boats and launches, a number of spars and yard arms and the topmast to have been placed on the Topeka within ten days. The historic cutter Alabama and the entire fleet and cutters of the Olympia and the personal barge of Admiral Dewey wcrealso burned. The loss is estimated at $250,000.
