Hickman's dog ooinpletljr annihilated one of the gold-standard town vats last week, Will Nichols and wife of West Vernon, visited relatives here Suturdsy and Sunday. The third annual farmer’s picniu at this place « ill be held Aug. 25, so we uuderstund. Grandpa and Grandma Whitaker of Hammond, w.-ited their miu John, and family last week. W. J. Melmlck and wife of Mucomb City, Mo., are visiting frieuds uud relatives at this place. Whentfleld will play their return game with Gifford next Suuday on the grounds of the latter. The following Sunday they will return their game with Kouts, then, after that, first come, the first served.
Alex. Jensen, Lee Fisher, Bessie Tilton and Minnie Tiukham went to Rensselaer Saturday to attend normal. The ball game between Kouts and Wheatfield on the grounds of the latter, resulted in a score of 11 to 25 in favor of Wheatfield. We heard Greely think the other day, he wouldu't go to see his best girl so often now but would just go and stay with her a spell. Born, to Mr. aud Mrs. P. Hodge. Wednesday of last week, a fine democrat girl. Although Hodge is very small, one would have thought to hear him holler it was Gabriel’s trumpet sounding when he went out doors aud stood on his head and called himself papa. John Pinter drove over to Kouts last Wednesday expecting to take the train for Chicago, but on his arrival at Kouts he discovered that he had lost his pocket-book which contained about $25 and a number of checks, on most of which the payment has been stopped.
