THE COMMON COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the city council was held Monday evening for the purpose of reorganizing that body. Members present, Mayor McCoy, Councilmen Dean, Eger, McColly, Spitler, Clerk Irwin, Marshal McGowan, and City Attorney Kurrie. The newly elected officers presented their certificates of election as follows: John Eger, mayor; S. C. Irwin, clerk; Jas. H. Chapman, treasurer; Abram Simpson, marshal; C. J. Dean and H. J. Kannal, councilmen from the Ist ward; I. J. Porter, councilmen for the 2d ward, and J. C. Chilcote and J. F. McColly, councilmen for the 3d ward, all of which were accepted and the officers duly qualified. The mayor, clerk, treasurer and marshal will take their respective offices on the first Monday in September, the 3d and, serve for four years. The councilmen take their seats at once, and in casting lots for the 2 and 4 year terms, Dean won the four year term in the Ist ward arid Chilcote w’on out in the 3d. In the reorganization of the council Eger was elected president; J. W. Childers was re-appointed night-watch; Harry R. Kurrie, city attorney; H. L. Gambie, city engineer; S. C. Johnson, health officer; E. R. Hopkins, chief of fire department; W. H. Eger, city tapper. The mayor appointed the following committees: Streets, alleys, sidewalks, public property and public health —McColly, Kannal and Dean.
