THE COMMON COUNCIL.

The city council met in regular session Monday night, with Chas. G. Spitler as president. Councilmen present: Murray, Dean, Spitler, Eger. MeColly and Gwin. Jay Williams and eighty-two others filed a petition asking that Weston Park on Division street be improved by replacing the trees with live ones, mowing the grass and placing a smnll fountain therein. This was referred to the committee on public property and Baid committee was authorized to employ a suitable person to replace said trees and attend to keeping the grass mowed in said park. J. W. Childers was appointed night watch for another year. On motion the city clerk was directed to file nil bills for light and water against the county with the county auditor and the superintendent of light aud water system was authorized to receipt the same when amounts are allowed. St. Augustine’s Catholic church was assessed $7 for sewer interception. The committee from the Ladies’ Literary Society reported that they had secured $608.75 towards the purchase of Milroy Park. The price asked for the tract, which contains one aud thiee quarters acres, is $2,400.
