A ROUSING CONVENTION.

The democratic city convention was held at the coart house Monday evening as per call, and it was at least three times larger than any similar convention ever held by the democrats to nominate a town or city ticket. Both the ward and city conventions were largely attended and much enthusiasm was shown. An excellent ticket from top to bottom was placed in the field and its complete success is assured with active work. Excellent business men who will give the people a business-like administration were placed in nomination and the ticket as made up is probably the best ever put in the field in this city. The candidates from Mayor down to Marshall are clean men and worthy of the support of all voters. Their well-known business ability and integrity is sufficient guarantee that if elected we may expect a good, economical administration; The convention passed off smoothly and harmonioosly. It was popular for once at least to be k democrat in Rensselaer, and the good humor prevailing in all the conventions and bubbling from enthusiastic democrats on all sides showed the pleasure they felt in seeing such a large turn out. For cooncilmen, in the first ward Moses Tnteur and Joseph Sharp were nominated by acclamation. C. D. Nowels was chairman and J. J. Hunt secretary of this meeting. In the third ward the njynes of J. C. Chilcote, C. E. Hershman, Bruce White and J. A. McFarland were presented. The vote was, Chilcote 31, Hershman 14, White 13, McFarland 10. The two former were declared the nominees. W. R. Nowels was chairman and J. W. Douthit secretary of this meeting. The mass city convention convened immediately after the ward conventions in the east court room, to nominate a mayor, clerk, treasurer and marshal. Lucias Strong was made chairman, W. J. lines secretaiy and The Democrat editor assistant secretary. James Maloy presented the name of E. P. Honan and J. C. Chilcote that of John Eger for mayor. The vote was, Eger 82, Honan 34. Mr. Honan moved that Mr. Eger’s nomination he made unanimous. Earl Mann was nominated for clerk by acclamation. For treasurer the names of Jerry Healy and J. J. Eiglesbach were presented, but the we understand was in no wise a candidate and not present at the meeting. The vote was, Healy 82, Eiglesbach 29. For marshall the names of John Moosemiller and Abraham Simpson were presented. The vote was, Simpson 78, Moosemiller 36. There being no further business before the meeting, John Chilcote got up and moved that the great American rooster adorn the head of the ticket, and the people all went home, chock-fnll of enthusiasm for the ticket In the second ward D. A. Stoner, Frank Parker and J. T. Randle were nominated. Parker received 6 votes, Stoner 9, and Randle 4. On second ballot Parker received 12 votes and Stoner 10. Mr. Parker was declared the nominee. D. A. Stoner was chairman and Vanoe Collins secretary of the meeting.
