County Investigation Matters.

Herman Chueden, painter, a fugitive from a recent Grand Jury indictment charging him with presenting a false claim to the county commissioners of Shelby county, returned home Monday night, thinly clothed and halfstarved. He surrendered himself and his mother signed his bond for $2,000. • * In the Wabash Circuit Court, by change of venue, the suit of Whitley County against ex-Treas-ures Geiger and Gross for money unlawfully retained, the jury on Monday returned a verdict of $698 against Geiger and $2,360.31 against Gross. Monday was the time for exTreasurer William Johnson of Montgomery county to answer why suit should not be brought against his bondsmen for over $9,000, which it is alleged, is due the county from him. He stated he was not yet able to make a settlement and asked for two weeks more for the experts, who are now engaged in going over the books, to complete their work. ♦
