The Washington county auditor is reported §2,3()(>.70 short in his accounts. The democratic counly committee have petitioned the Boone county council to appropriate sl,000 for an investigation of all the county offices. The serial story from the Transvaal always ends with the thrilling statement that the villain is mustering his troops and intends to “still pursue her.” It is a curious commentary on the healthfulness of the Philippines regarding which Senator Beveridge had so much to say, that out of 1400 men in the 21st infantry, a “regular” regiment, 500 are now reported unfit for duty. The only semblance of endorsement that we have seen of the assassination of Gov. Goebel of Kentucky comes from Gov. “Teddy’’ Koosevelt of New York, and Apoligist Marshal], of Rensselaer, decidedly approves of Teddy’s alleged endorsement of the same. Now Gov. Roosevelt comes out in a statement denying the remarks accredited him. says he was misquoted, etc., but no such thing need be expected of Apologist Marshall.

The board of count}' connnis- . sioners yesterday filed an additional suit against ex-O-unty Recorder William E. Shilling. The former suit was for the recovery of $2,000 of the fees he was charged by Experts Bookwaiter and McCaslin with having retained, and his bondsmen were made co-de-fendants. The suit yesterday was for the recovery of $1,637.26, the difference between the amount heretofore sued upon and the total amount of fees charged against him. —Indianapolis Sentinel.
