The Wheatfield Telephone has changed to a 5 column quarto —a decided improvement. The wife of Ellis Jones of Jordan tp., died last Sunday after a long illness from consumption. It is rumored that Robt. Parker the Remington banker .is figuring on starting a bank at Wheatfield. Now is a good time to agitate the improvement of that notorious three miles of Range Line road in Jordan tp.—the people will stop to listen. ' V The fifth trial of the celebrated Turpie-Lowe land case at Logansport, resulted in a verdict for Lowe for $12,067 and costs. The case was first instituted in 1886. A family named Prey who lately moved from Remington, were reported in a destitute condition some days ago. They reside near the depot. There is a mother and eight children at home, the father being away somewhere. Supplies were contributed for their relief. A Wabash dispatch says: M. Si Howe, an experienced oil opera- | tor, pronounces a sample of the oil ' struck in Jasper county last week the finest crude he has ever seen. Mr. Howe says it is fit for lubricating without refining.

The concert given by the Johnson Swiss Bell Ringers and the Ascetceam Trio Concert Company, at the M. E. Church last Tuesday night was largely attended and highly appreciated by all present. Our people would be glad if they would return to our city sometime and repeat this most excellent entertainment. Abraham Halleck, of DeMotte, Ind., and dur druggist, F. L. Moreland, have recently purchased the telephone interest of Mr. W. R. Jones, of Francesville, the same constituting the entire system from Monon to Francesville, onehalf from Francesville to San Pierre and two-thirds from Francesville to Winamac. —Medaryville Advertiser.

Chas. Myers and wife of Wheatfield, Ind., came in on the Alpha Sunday evening and propose to stay all winter if it seems to benefit Mr. Myers’ health. They seem very favorably impressed with St. Andrews. They were guests at the Stone House until Tuesday morning when they took passage on the mail launch for the homestead of their friend, C. L. Lathrop, at the head of East Bay.— St. Andrews, (Fla.) Bouy, Jan. 11.

The 1898 delinquent tax list for Jasper county shows about the same number ordelinquencies as last year, with possibly a few more delinquencies in Rensselaer than the year previous. Newton has no delinquencies, Barkley has but 1; Marion 4; Hanging Grove, 3; Jordan. 5; Wheatfield tp., 2; Milroy, 6; Gillam, 5; Walker, 17; Kankakee. 9; Carpenter, 4. Keener and Union show quite a number of delinquencies in both townships and in DeMotte and Fair Oaks.

At the next fall election a full set of township officers will be elected as well as a full board of the county council, a county treasurer, sheriff, recorder, county assessor, coroner, and two commissioners. to take the place of commissioners Way mire and Dowell, the former’s term expiring in Dec. of this year, and the latter in Dec. 1901. Mr. Halleck’s term ends in Dec. 1902, he having only begun bis second term last month. Except the office of sheriff, all the present county officers are eligible to re-election, and the republicans will no doubt follow the custom of renominating them for the second term.
