NORTH BARKLEY. Mr. Nelson was in Rensselaer Tuesday. Walter Jones visited his parents at Kankakee Thursday. Aaron Seitz made a business trip to South Bend last week. Sam Bowers attended the dance at Rensselaer Thursday night. B. F. Funk did business in Dwight, 111., Friday and Saturday. J. G. Cusson transacted business in Rensselaer one day. last week. Miss Lizzie Aiders of Rensselaer, visited her parents near Corner Thanksgiving day. There will be a box supper at Snowflake, on Saturday eve, Dec. 16. All are invited. Misses Belle Seitz and Zelnia Funk visited friends in Rensselaer from Friday until Sunday. Pearl and Jobe Davis and Edward Trahn of Popular Buff, Mo., are visiting friends and relatives in this vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gifford visited friends and relatives at Herscherand K. K. K., 111., last week. Mr. Gifford came home Saturday but his wife will remain a week longer. MECHLING-FUNK. The wedding of Miss Minnie Funk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Funk, living one mile west of Comer, and Arthur Mechling of Comer, occurred at the home of the bride’s parents on Thanksgiving, Nov. 30, 1899, at 12 o’clock, M. The ceremony was pronounced by Rev. W. R. Nowels of Rensselaer. The bride wore white silk tiimmed with white satin ribbon. The groom wore conventional black. Immediately after the ceremony they proceeded to the dinning room where an elegant repast was served. The bride is an accomplished and charming young lady and has the esteem of all who know her. The groom is an expert blacksmith and carpenter. The happy couple will begin housekeeping at Comer about January Ist. Following is a list of presents:

Charles Jenkins killed hogs Tuesday. Lincoln Jenkins is working for Elias Arnold. Edward Jenkins spent Sunday with John W. Hurley. Anderson Jenkins hauled corn Yeoman’s the first of the week. Daniel Lesh and Charles Reed have been hauling gravel this and last week. i Anderson Jenkins and. wife spent Sunday with Victor Yeoman and family. Mr. Independence cor. went to Wheatfield last week on business. The recent snow kept him from coming home. Mrs. Sarah Hart, who is working at the Nowels hotel, spent Sunday with her mother Mrs. Henry Steele, of near this place. There will be a box social and exhibition combined at the Burnstown school house, Saturday, Dec. 9. ; Every body invited. The entertainment can not be beat, and all are promised a good time. Proceeds go to replenish the school library.
SHARON.
. Gilbert Hensen is improving from his fever attack. Homer Timmons was a caller in Bensselaerlast Monday. Walter Disbrow entertained relatives from Sheldon, 111., last week. Robert Blake of near Rensselaer, visited with his parents here last week. Conrad Lorenz is preparing to erect a residence on nis farm in the spring. The Endeavor society will give a social the .near future for the benefit of the society.
Mr. Harris of Rensselaer, purchased a bunch of cattle here last week. ♦
A Remington poultry man was doing business here the latter part of the week.
Sharon is still without a regular mail-carrier, Mr. Shoup having thrown up his job. Christmas will be observed by a tree and appropriate exercises by the Sunday school. Henry Timmons has rented a farm in Jordan tp., and will move there in the spring.
Messrs. Glosser and Harris of Remington, are hauling their corn in to town from here. Messrs. J. W, Harris and John Sommers have 450 head of cattle grazing on their farms. Several Illinois parties have been here recently viewing land and some have closed deals! J. W. Harris and sister entertained their parents from Remington with a Thanksgiving dinner at their home.
The squib to the Journal from Sharon who has been suffering from his “what is it?” is convalescent, and if petrification can be checked a speedy recovery is assured him.
Revs. Rohrig and Sherrill, assisted by an evangelist from La Grange, will begin a series of protracted meetings at Sharon next Sunday night following the Y. P. S. C. E.

Joe Larsh was in Monticello Wednesday.
Sheriff Reed was in town several days last week. How about that investigation of the county records? J. S. Barnes was in Logansport in business Monday.
The new Christian church is to be dedicated to-morrow. Chris Cuppy is temporarilly domiciled at the county poor asylum.
M. L. Hemphill, Rensselaer’s most popular liveryman, was in town Wednesday.
Hartley Church returned Tuesday from attending the C. E. Convention at Richmond.
Milo Julian and Miss Maggie Foster of near Odessa, were married Wednesday evening.
Mrs. Maude Helvie of New Carlisle, Ohio, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Bowman.
Geo. W. Thompson and family of southwest of town, spent Saturday and Sunday with friends at Kentland.
Mr. James Snell, southeast of town who has been confined to the hous6 for 3 weeks with malarial is convalescing.
Mrs. J. M. Howell, southeast of town, who has been very low with malignant typhoid fever for some weeks, is slowly recovering.
Misses Matie Knight, Ella Mullen, Alice Turner and Leona Schwerdsman were Rensselaer visitors Thanksgiving day. It is reported that George Reigle and S. H. Kuster will open a restaurant in the room now occupied by Mr. Kuster’s feed store and coal office.
Chas. Hughes, a former restauranter of this place, was granted a divorce from his wife Nora Hughes, on the charge of adultery, in the White circuit court Wednesday. Quite a sad case of suicide occured a few miles southwest of town last Friday morning. Miss Anna Stitz ended life and trouble by swallowing a quantity of carbolic acid.
Miss Anna Tedford formerly of Remington but now of Idaville, was married a few days ago to a gentleman from North Judson. The ceremony was performed at Monticello. « ‘•Down East,” the Thanksgiving play given by home talent, together with the meals served by the ladies of the Christian church, netted something over SIOO for the building fund of that church. Mrs. Alice Meyers, divorced wife of “Gus” Meyers, was married Thanksgiving day at Monticello to Robert Crone oL ( Delphi. Mr. and Mrs. Crone left for Delphi Saturday, where they will make their home. Hon. W. S. Major of Wessington, So. Dak.,,visited his brother John F. Major, over Sunday. He was enroute to visit his father, Hon. George Major, at Bloomington, Ind., and will return again for a more extended visit here.

Hr. George B. Collins of Brook, and Miss Sarah Burns of Rensselaer, were united in marriage at the residence of J. M. Ott, an uncle of the bride, last Sunday afternoon, Rev. Matthews of the M. E. church officiating. They will reside at Brook. Rev. L. E. Brown’s lecture “A Batch of Biscuit,” at the Christian church Tuesday evening was well attended and enjoyed by every one present. We did not learn the amount netted by the sale of tickets but judging from the size of the crowd it must have been quite a neat sum.
About 25 of the members of Schuyler Lodge, I. O. O. F. went to Wolcott Tuesday evening and initiated six candidates. After the tussel with the proverbial''‘bucking goat,” supper was served in a room adjoining the lodge room to which all did ample justice. A jolly good time was had by all. Married, Wednesday evening, Nov. 27, at the residence of the bride’s father, W. C. Kirk, Mr. J. Grant Tarman and Miss Viola Kirk, in the presence of only the families of the contracting parties. Mr. and Mrs. Tarman start on their voyage over the sea of matrimony attended by the best wishes of their many friends.

Mr. Hochbaum’s house is ready for plastering. Nannie Hammacher spent Thanksgiving at Mr. Leech’s. There will be a wood-chopping next Saturday for Mrs. Truss. Mrs. Chas. Harrington visited at Peter Plummer’s last Sunday. 'V There is rumor of a sawmill being located in this vicinity in the near future.
Rev. Appleton addresses the people of this place every second Thursday night. .
Miss Clara Haste attended the Teachers’ Association at Rensselaer, Dec. 1-2.
Mr. Owen Grimm, the champion corn husker, who husks 72 bushels in six hours, has returned to this place.
Mr. Geo. Cover and wife returned from Lowell last - Friday, where they had been visiting the former’s daughter.

Lee Nolan wife of Lee, visited Chas. Whitaker and wife one day last week.
Uncle Tommy Walters and wife attended church at Glendale Sunday afternoon. Mesdames Jerry and John Bisber and Wm. Culp, were the guests 6f Mrs. Ella Reed Saturday. The hunters are taking advantage of the snow, trying to see how many rabbits they can kill. Jas. Blankenship and wife, Mrs. Frank Tillet and Mrs. Albert Leach did shopping in Francesville Monday.
Miss Grace Goldsbury and Mr. and Mrs. Levi Miller visited the latter’s parents, south of Medaryville, Saturday and Sunday.
Nemiah, Dora and Charlie Luchenbiel, who have been attending Church school, spent Thanksgiving at their home in Winamac.
FAIR OAKS.
R. W. Schofield visited his family a couple of days this week. Rev. Leeßon of Fowler visited bis brother Fred, last Monday eve. Rev. Brady preached at the Christian church last Sunday p. m. -v Jack Kight of Chicago is at home visiting his parents this week. Mr. Isaac Burns from abroad is visiting his sister-in-law, Mrs. Cottingham. Mrs. Schofield, Pearl and Robbie attended meeting near Foreeman last week, returning home Monday evening.
Enos Moffitt and parents have moved home from the Harris & Vanatta ranch. Oscar Hannon from White Co., is visiting his brother Grant, a few days this week.
Mrs. Will Herod is very sick. Dr. Jones of Kniman is her attending physician. Everybody please remember the C. T. U. meeting Sunday eve, Dec. 17, at the M. E. church. Mrs. Fannie Cottingham was quite sick a few days this week, but is much better at this writing. The Thanksgiving sermon preached by Rev. Appleton last Thursday evening was an excellent discourse.

Jud Clossen has come home to stay this winter. Dr Noland of No. Judson, was on ouY streets last week. Miss Carrie Donitha was married to Mr. Lee of Wanatah, last week. Warren White has quit making this town seven nights every week. Wm. Switzer is papa now. A ten pound girl came to his house to stay.
There will be a shadow social at the school house at this place Saturday evening, Dec. 9.
Walter Crow, the violinist and impersonator, will give an entertainment here Ded. 12:
Mr. Lee and wife are visiting with the former’s father-in-law, Mr. Guse, at this place. As long as the snow lasts just that long will the Nubbin Ridgers continue to make a killing. Several of the young people of this place took in the typl at No. Judson last Wednesday evening. Fred Zable’s big dog got loose the other evening and ran out in the street and bit the caboose out of a fellow’s pants. The cold, raw wind the first of the week made our faces as red as that of a Thanksgiving turkey, but, poor fellows, we couldn’t gobble. V
Mrs. James Daly, who received an injured arm .by a fall on the dance floor at this place Nov. 22, is getting along very nicely at this writing.
One of our prominent merchants allowed a customer to pass a $5 gold piece on him for $lO. It had been some time since this gentleman had seen any “honest money,” we suppose.
We sell envelopes and writing paper cheaper than any place in
the city.
