THE COMMON COUNCIL.
Geo. Hopkins, Jacob McDonald, John Hodsbire and H. C. Smith have resigned as members of the fire department, while John Rush has passed the physical examnimation, served his month’s probation and has been accepted as a member. The ordinance requiring the owners of lands abutting on or over which the Iroquois river flows, within the City of Rensselaer, to remove from the bed of such river, all willows, weeds or obstructions, which in any way retards the flow of said stream, passed the second reading. An ordinance to prevent teaming and heavy hauling and also to prevent the running of traction or other heavy engines over and upon streets and alleys of the city of Rensselaer at certain times of the year and declaring an emergency, was introduced and read and on motion the rule relating to the second and third readings of ordinance was suspended by a twothirds vote of the Council and the ordinance was put upon its passage. Those voting in favor of the adoption of ordinance were: Councilmen Murray, Dean, Eger, McColly and Giver. No one voting in the negative. An ordinance was declared duly adopted relating to the obstruction of the streets by continued failure to remove ice and snow therefrom.
