Kev. George W. Neely, Bower, N. C., died of paralysis, aged 70 years. At Norfolk, Va., the main building of St. Vincent’s hospital was burned. The bodies of four inmates were recovered from the ruins. Peter Ilftnes, a well-to-do negro of llarriston, Miss,, threw a lighted lamp at his wife and it exploded, enveloping her in flames, which in a few minutes burned her to death. He tried vainly to smother the flames and was himself fatally burned. On the stage of the Chattanooga, Tenn., new opera house Julia Morrison, leading lady in the “Mj. Plaster of Paris" company, shot and killed Frank Leiden, stage manager of the company. Leiden and Miss Morrison had quarreled at rehearsal. At Abilene, Texas, Will Johnson, aged 15 years, accidentally slipped aud fell against the box of a square bale press, which was operated by steam. The packer came down aud cut his head smooth from the shoulders, forcing it with the cotton to the bottom of the box. The Queen Regent of Spain, has presented the Spanish casino at Tampa, Fla., with 000 books for its library for public use. They were sent ns a mark of the Queen's appreciation of the kiudly manner in which the Spanish population of that city was treated during the recent war.
