Miss Melzie Schrieber was talking to a certain fellow the other day. Upon being repri manded for so doing, by a friend, she replied "He's my brother-in-law.’’ The ancients idea of a perfect country was one that abounded in milk and honey. My idea of au ideal country is one that flows with corn-bread and milk. Mr. Wheatfield likes mush. Gen. Albert Keen took his little boy who lately lost his hearing to an ear specialist at Chicago last week. He claims that the boy can be helped but cannot be cured. The little red wheeled peanut roaster that Anderson received last Saturday seemed to attract more attention than any other little machine of this kind that had struck the town for some time. In fact, it was a warm article, especially when the gas was turned on. The extra strain that Rev. Hickman put on his voice last Sunday evening was unnecessary because he thought that that would be his last sermon at this place, but we are pleased to know that he will preach the Gospel on the circuit of Dunnville, San Pierre, West Vernon and this place for another year. We happened to stop at a little "hoe-down” east of town last Friday evening und what do you think we saw but Mr. D. V. doing what we supposed to be the "cake walk” on the dancing floor. He was assisted by several others, and seemed to be getting along very nicely. But why not? Because there stood a man off to one side telling him what to do and how to do it. Thereaaon we took it to be a cake walk was because we bad seen nothing like it before.
